Recent research undertaken at Copenhagen County hospital suggests Rosehip powder may help to reduce joint pain. Norwegian research carried out by Orthopedic Surgeon Odd Warholm together with his research team at Westfold central Hospital Norway, monitored 100 patients over a 4 month period. Their findings produced similar results to the Danish study.
The humble Rosehip is one of the most complete forms of nutriment found in nature. Not only are they a rich source of vitamin C, (7 times that of apples). They also contain Vitamin A, B1, E, K, P. Niacin, Pectin, Phosphorous, Iron, Calcium and Magnesium.
Jan Oivind Moskaugh a Norwegian doctor and nutritional researcher currently undertaking a 4 year study in to the nutritional benefits of fruit and berries, he rated rosehips higher than strawberries, raspberries and blueberries for their nutritional value.
The plant is native to Europe and North America. It was given the name Rosa Canina (Dog rose) by the Swedish botanist and doctor Carl von Linne’ 1707 - 78 as the root was used in the treatment of rabies following dog and wolf bites. Rose hips have had countless uses through the ages including the ease of muscle pain, warding off the common cold and as a general tonic.
